The action research methodology has been widely adopted in various fields. This participatory approach involves researchers in the application of research techniques to define actions that solve organizational problems. With the increasing demands for industrial development, organizations need to implement strategies that enhance profitability and productivity. In these challenging contexts, action research stands out as a valuable tool for promoting improvements in organizational processes. This study conducts a systematic literature review, analyzing articles from the Scopus database, using the Methodi Ordinatio methodology to rank the most relevant articles. The objective is to identify the main results and purposes of using action research in the field of production engineering. The most relevant results show that most studies focus on improving production processes, achieving quantitative results such as increased productivity and cost reduction, as well as qualitative results, including improvements in the quality of products and services, staff training, and enhancement of organizational culture.
