Biodiesel used as power source in toll plazas: an economical and environmental analysis

This article aims to demonstrate the economic viability and environmental advantages of the replacement of biodiesel, instead of diesel, obtained through used fried oil to be used in power generators. To reach this goals, a study was lead in three toll plazas of the state of Rio Grande do Sul that have diesel power generators. The technical parameters for the study of diesel power generators were obtained from experiments conducted by the research group to guide the study. The results of the work were reached to verify that biodiesel can be used as a substitute for diesel generators in the toll plazas leading to economic and environmental advantages. Thus, this study provided a better understanding about the proposal subject, and shows the importance of renewable energy sources forward to the environmental, political and economic events.
