The agriculture sector plays a significant role in the global economy and in economic and social development as well. In order to increase productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness worldwide, including in Brazil where agriculture constitutes a significant portion of the GDP, effective decisions need to be made in the agricultural sector. Despite the importance of decision-making in agriculture, there are still gaps to be addressed. Agricultural managers and decision-makers find it challenging to have a solid basis for evaluating options in difficult situations. For the development of this article, publications on the application of the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method in agriculture and the environment were analyzed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. As a result, this article provides valuable insights for dissemination and helps support advancements in the use of the TOPSIS method and its variants in modern agriculture.
