Abstract

Given the economic significance of the steel industry, this study aims to identify the key factors influencing a mill's production strategy, as perceived by seasoned industry professionals. To achieve this goal, we conducted a thorough literature review to pinpoint the primary determinants impacting the decision-making process concerning the production strategies. Subsequently, we employed the multi-criteria Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to conduct pairwise comparisons of these factors and establish their rankings. Our assessment unveiled that the environmental factor emerged as the foremost criterion, likely attributed to the mounting environmental concerns within society. Based on the AHP analysis and an examination of available alternatives, the customized production strategy appears to be the most favourable choice within the steel sector. Nevertheless, a comprehensive evaluation of other facets remains indispensable. This study underscores the imperative for decision-makers to meticulously weigh the pertinent factors when crafting production strategies for their companies, with a distinct emphasis on efficiency and competitiveness. Notably, the research accentuates the genuine commitment of decision-makers toward sustainability in the formulation of production strategies. The findings clearly demonstrate a pronounced preference for prioritizing environmental factors over economic considerations in the strategy development process.
