Process Innovation, Industry 4.0, LogisticsAbstract
While the potential of open innovation to develop product-related improvements through the use of external knowledge sources is undeniable, our understanding of how firms become process innovators remains limited. It is important to distinguish between product and process innovation, as insights gained from investigating product innovation may not be directly related to the study of process innovation. The aim of this paper was to describe practical cases of this innovation and its potential to ensure more sustainable production processes in the industrial sector. In addition, we propose an analysis matrix that tracks how process innovation can enable companies' transition to Industry 4.0. The results presented by the cases described in this research point to a direct relationship between process innovation and increased productivity and innovation in the organizations studied.
