Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic emphasized the importance of plastic for society, as it was essential for the containment of the virus and the safety of the population. However, the consequences are diverse due to the exacerbated use of this material and its mismanagement. In this sense, a systematic literature review was carried out based on articles published in the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Thirty five articles were obtained, which were analyzed quantitatively, in order to present a bibliometric analysis, and 10 articles were analyzed qualitatively, with the aim of synthesizing the most relevant articles on the subject of study. Thus, it was concluded that the challenges for the circular economy during the pandemic were aggravated by the reduction in selective collections and the lack of separation of much of this plastic waste, the lack of awareness and ignorance of society regarding the environmental hazards that plastics cause, in addition to the political and economic impasses.
