Abstract

Recycling is essential for the transformation of solid waste discarded by the population into raw material for the composition of a new product in the supply chain. In 2010, the government instituted Law No. 12,305, which stimulated the creation and development of cooperatives or other forms of association of collectors of reusable and recyclable materials. However, there are still several impasses for their performance, since they commonly face organizational, structural and productive problems. Thus, the present work aims to elaborate a proposal to balance the First Sorting process in an urban solid waste sorting cooperative located in the city of Goiânia (GO) through the simulation of systems. Thus, for its accomplishment, the methodological approach of qualitative-quantitative research was used, having the character of an experimental research. In addition, the study includes the development of a simulation model using the Flexsim software, in which the steps described by Banks et al. (2005). Therefore, from this work it was possible to understand that in order to have an increase in productivity, there must be a relocation of operators in the First Screening process, with scenario 18 as the best proposed composition, which provided an 8.3% growth in the billing and monthly income of the cooperative members, and also reduced the workload of duos 2 and 3 that operate on the conveyor belt. It is worth mentioning that this percentage of growth can represent a lot for the cooperative members, since they are people who are in a situation of social vulnerability. For future studies, it is recommended to investigate the other processes of the cooperative to confirm the scenario proposed in this work and be able to have its application in the cooperative.
