Application of theory of constraints in a dairy industry: a case study

The organizations which are looking for strategic and competitive growth, need to manage efficiently their resources. The Theory of Constraints (TOC) enables through defined steps to identify, control and manage the bottlenecks, whether physical or non-physical, the ones which limit the organizational processes. The aim of this present work is to describe and analyze how TOC was implemented for a non-physical bottleneck – demand prediction model – of a dairy industry in Minas Gerais. The research was made with a descriptive character through a case study. The results refer to the identification of the bottleneck for the refrigerated line, the processes to implement the TOC and the methods created to mitigate it. There were positive and significant results in the production flow and performance of the plant to the distribution centers.Downloads
