Traditional construction methods have low levels of productivity and standardization, and high levels of waste and rework. Due to these problems and taking into consideration environmental aspects, innovative construction systems, which employ reusable or recyclable materials from other industries, are here analyzed aiming to verify their suitability regarding technical-economic aspects. The objective of the present study was to assess the cost and benefit of the construction system using sandwich panel, molded in place, reusing polyethylene terephtalate (PET) bottles to produce the core of walls and slabs. Regarding the economic aspect, the construction system using masonry structure and the studied system were compared. The direct cost was analyzed and the benefits related to value attributes were observed for options of prefabricated construction, using as theoretical reference the list of significant value attributes that may be connected to the use of prefabricated items in constructions proposed by Cook. Stages, activities, productivity, and resources needed to carry out a project employing the construction system using masonry structure and the studied system were investigated. A process mapping was designed in which the potential benefits of the construction system can be identified. The study of cost and benefit demonstrated the technical-economic relevance of the construction system investigated, not much due to the direct cost, but because of the benefits of the construction system management.Downloads
