This article presents a study of the application of production capacity concepts and forecasting, focused in the proposition of solutions to problems concerning capacity planning. The objective is to predict the mix of products and the expected activity level in order to optimize the capacity use. With this aim, it is proposed a mathematical model that uses the nonlinear GRG algorithm available in Microsoft ® Excel worksheet. The model application is conducted using data of a main Brazilian manufacturing plastic company. The results show the ability of the model to provide information to assist decision making for the production capacity planning.Downloads
