Contribution of manufacturing execution system in the execution of competitive priorities in manufacturing companies

The aim of this paper is to analyze the results that the implementation of an information system type MES (Manufacturing Execution System) can bring to manufacturing companies. The research method was the multiple case study. Two medium-sized companies were studied (X and Y) with different characteristics of product and process, with implementation of MES lasting seven to ten years. The results show that through 2011-2014 there was an improvement in the competitive priorities cost and delivery to company X and quality, cost and delivery to company Y. The main results observed which can be attributed to the MES implementation are: X, increase time machine operating at 32% reduction in 47.6% lead time and manufacturing costs at 9.7%; Y, reduction in waste of 52.6%, manufacturing costs at 8.7% and the lead time by 20%.Downloads
