The surface roughness is one most important requirement in the machining process. The determination of machining parameters is an important stage in the manufacturing process and tool life. In this paper we propose to optimize machining parameters of iron in milling process in an industrial plant agricultural machine using response surface methodology (RSM). We calculated the effects of machining parameters: speed, feed and depth of cut on the response variables about surface roughness and cycle time of the milling operation. Applying this RSM allowed to plan and execute test efficiently, modeling the response variables according to adjustment of process parameters and thus determine the optimal setting of parameters that optimizes simultaneously the surface roughness and cycle time, providing to evaluate the material loss and cost of operation.
