Identification of quality control types applied in mass customization

Abstract

The uses of quality control (QC) in products and services obtained through mass customization (MC) is an open research topic, attracting interest from researchers and practitioners due to its relevance and applicability. In this paper we identify QC types applied in MC to formalize them through scientific research. For that we performed a qualitative research carried out through interviews in six companies from the manufacturing and service areas, covering sectors such as automakers and electric energy suppliers. The analyses are organized through theoretical comparison, external comparison and ordering by consensus. It was found that the QC adopted by a company in mass customized products and services depends on the product structure.
